I just climbed 16 flights of stairs and did three lady push-ups. The stairs weren’t so bad, but those push-ups were brutal. I tried to do a fourth but ended up sagging on the floor. Stairclimbing is a very efficient way to tire yourself out, but also can be quite dangerous. My legs were like jelly on the way back down so I was worried I might fall, hit my head, and be rendered unconscious in the very rarely frequented stairwell. Luckily, I survived.

In other news, I pulled out a white hair a few days ago. It’s my second one, and I think there are more, I just don’t want to look. I may have to reassess my hair-dyeing plan. I originally decided that I would start at 30% (white hair), and then decided that 10% was probably more realistic. And now I’m wondering if I should go even lower.

Today, or maybe yesterday, I can’t remember, I over-heard this guy talking on the phone, asking his friend if he had malaria. The friend said he didn’t know and the guy replied that he would know if he had malaria and then he went on to describe some symptoms, which did not seem to be altogether accurate, but I’ve never had malaria, so what do I know.

My hair dresser told me about this program where hair salons can send in hair clippings to be made into hair mats that are donated to emergency oil spills and sold to municipalities for use in routine leaks and spills. That’s where all the hair from the salon is going, rather than in the garbage. The program is run by a public charity called Matter of Trust. They accept individual human hair donations as well as pet hair, and the hair can be of any length, or condition.

They are also working on a program to feed the oil-soaked hair mats to mushrooms and worms, to produce a detoxified compost.

And they are also accepting donations of

“clean, used, runned nylons which we double, cut and stuff with the hair to make “booms” that surround and contain as well as soak up oil spills.“

They also have a Manmade Surplus program.

This time I didn’t do it myself. It’s shorter than I thought it would be. I forgot how hair length shortens ups when it dries and I was not very specific about how short I wanted it. I figured anything in the range would be okay, but I didn’t think it through. On the plus side, I will get to see the hair go through the different lengths and figure out which one I like the best. I suspect it will be 2 inches from now:

And I think tomorrow, breakfast will also be cake. I had chips last night, and again tonight, for the first time in ages. Maybe even a year. I cannot remember the last time I had chips. Actually, it’s been a long time since I have eaten all kinds of crap. Interesting.

I finished reading Submarine. I enjoyed it. There are many one-liners that are good for a chuckle. Sadly, I didn’t have a pen handy when I was reading, so I cannot quote anything right now, but I will soon. Pretty much all of the words in the book are useful, which I find is rare these days. The author, Joe Dunthorne didn’t do the cover art or his website art though, I was wrong in assuming that.

I cut the front part of my hair, even though I said I would not. I just trimmed a bit. I like it. So far. I will know more tomorrow, it’s still wet now, and reasonably behaved.

I am afraid for the health of his hair. Oh well, it is dead after all, and it grows back. I remember my own hair-dyeing antics and I also remember the relief when my hair grew out. I was so keen to have all my natural hair back that I cut off all the old dyed hair even though I didn’t want it to be so short. How times have changed. I’m pretty happy with my short hair now, though this happiness fluctuates day to day, but so far I’m enjoying the smoothness and orderly nature of the short hair. It’s also a lot more bouncy.

I saw the first two posts earlier, and wasn’t sure if it was him, because the domain didn’t redirect to DRAFilms. I thought it might be him because of the ‘woah’ and the Walt Whitman reference, but I don’t know anything about metal, so the rest was just gibberish to me and it was just two posts.

Now, it’s been updated to include cookies and snacks, eating in bed, and PBS documentaries, all of which I comprehend, and can personally relate to, interspersed with metal, which I do not comprehend.

But he’s back.

On an unrelated note, this is a reminder to myself not to cut my hair any further. The contemplation is over. It’s fine the way it is. I think I can now control it with a fraction of the ‘product’ that I originally thought was required, and so it’s not so disgusting to touch my hair anymore, and I don’t look like a greaseball. I might have to get some more hairspray. Anyway, I like the longer front. I thought a shorter front might be nicer, so I could have an angled side-sweep, or whatever it’s called. But the I realized that it’s probably pretty hard to make my hair do that. Not worth it.

Another note: I should continue with the heavy eye-make up. I’ve had this stuff for years and still not made a dent in it.

My knees were a bit achy this morning, and I had to take a morning nap, but otherwise I’m feeling good. Hee. I will definitely not be running today. I was dizzy for a few hours last night, even after eating dinner and drinking a lot of water. I spilled a bunch of stuff in the kitchen and then almost fell over trying to get to the bed. Today there is some tingling in the back of my neck. I don’t know why.

I dropped off my hair at Continental Hair, their minimum is 10 inches, I just met the requirement. The Pantene program takes a minimum of 8 inches and there’s a postage paid form you can print out to send your hair in. I was going to send it there, because I didn’t think I would have more than 8 inches, but I did. Here’s a list of some other programs that take hair donations.

I used some molding paste today. It still looks like crap. I saw lots of people with similar length hair, mostly looking nice, like they knew how to style it. I’m wondering if it might be a good idea to cut the front a bit shorter. It could be the start of disaster.

I couldn’t wash all of the ‘paste’ out of my hair last night. I washed and repeated and I can still feel some of it in my hair today. It’s pretty gross to have to do that to your hair everyday, so I’m not going to. Today is a bobby pins day.

Last night’s episode of 30 Rock was excellent. I will be watching it again. My favorite word of the night is : thoughtsicles. Brilliant. I had a favorite line too, but I can’t remember it at the moment.

Grey’s Anatomy is still best watched using fast-forward. There’s no point in wasting your time following characters you hate (Izzie) or medical story lines you don’t give a crap about (everyone). By adhering to these viewing principles, I believe that I reduced last night’s episode to approximately 20 minutes of viewing time. It would have been shorter, but I was eating at the time, so occasionally my hands were busy stuffing my face.

I was going to tape Lost, but then decided that I would just watch bits and pieces if it was convenient, and then it turned out not be, so I will read a recap at TWoP. It looks like some stuff is happening, it’s about time. I do want to know what happens, I just don’t want to watch the show.

Surprisingly, the show with the best return, an episode that did not disappoint, was Gossip Girl. The show is totally over-the-top, nothing like my high school experience, and so much ridiculous fun. And they all have nice hair. I need to figure out how to make my hair look like that. It looks like you could touch it and not get gunk all over your hands. I bet it takes hours though, and rollers and curlers and heat and ‘product’.

I saw a cute little boy today while I was taking pictures of some flowers. He came and stood next to me and then started picking some of the blue flowers, lupins maybe, I have to check for sure when I upload the pictures. Then he got a little lecture from his mom, probably about not picking flowers. I don’t know because I do not understand Mandarin, but I do understand inflection, and this was not a ‘that’s really great son, please continue picking the flowers’ kind of talk. I think part of it was also a ‘hurry up, or we’re going to late!’ kind of talk.

I’m glad I remembered to bring my camera today. I even charged the battery last night. The magnolia tree is in full bloom. It won’t last long. I took some video as well. I should take pictures every day. It really does not take long and the world looks different.

I got up extra early so I would have time to try and fix my hair. I used molding paste, which is actually called ‘clay’. Whatever. I used a lot of it. And then I got out the blow dryer. And then I put on more paste, and then I started with the hairspray. It was quite an involved process. And what it looks like now, 2 hours later, is nothing like what it looked like when I was done. The hair does not behave. It looks alright though. Not great, but not totally hideously shitty. This is what it looked like shortly after the last hairspray session this morning, as Christine would say, it’s not a match-making picture:

Well, my hair looked pretty crappy this morning, so I stuck it back in a ponytail, and at the end of the day when I took it out of the ponytail it looked like complete shit. It takes the indent of the elastic and looked hideous. So, if I want to wear my hair in a ponytail, I can’t wear it down afterwards. But I guess I could try some bobby pins. I need to learn how to use styling products. I do have some, like ‘molding paste’ or something like that, it’s just really sticky and hard to wash off and I don’t really know how to style it. So all of that can be added to the con list.

On the plus side, washing short hair is awesome. The lather, the softness, I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s so much nicer than washing long hair. Silky. Definite pro.

I’ll leave the hair down tomorrow and see what happens.
