Eventbox
This little program from http://thecosmicmachine.com/ is awesome.
When I first saw it, I thought it was a social calendar to organize all of your ‘events’, but it’s not.
It aggregates all your social networking tools, or just some of them, if you don’t want them all, and it only notifies you when you choose. For example, I subscribe to a lot of RSS feeds with Google Reader, so I don’t want to be notified every time someone posts something, especially since some of my news feeds send out duplicates, or even triplicates of their feeds. I would be getting notifications every 5 seconds, so I have turned off notification for Google Reader. There’s a separate category for Feeds, so if there are some feeds you want to hear about right away, you can have notification for those, or not, it’s up to you. It also integrates with Facebook, which I don’t care about, and Twitter, which I am starting to use, but only anonymously. And it uses 75% less working memory than the Twitterific, which I was using, but will probably delete now. And you can set it to check as often as every minute, if you are so inclined.
It’s easy to use and customize, and it’s pretty to look at, but it’s only for OSX 10.5.
It aggregates:
- Google Reader
- RSS
- Flickr
MacHeist is giving it away for free to all visitors, in conjunction with their MacHeist 3 Bundle launch.
