Potatoes + Milk + Cheese
I’m making scalloped potatoes, or something like it. I hope it turns out okay. I’ve never made it before. I’ve got to use up these potatoes and the milk soon. I’ve also got a bunch of cottage cheese and plain yogurt that I need to use up. I bought the yogurt because for the past few months I had been coming across recipes that I wanted to try, but they required yogurt and it was a “I need to eat NOW” situation, so I didn’t want to go to the grocery store, and I just kept looking for recipes that didn’t require yogurt. Now that I have 1.3kg of yogurt in the fridge, I cannot find any recipes that include yogurt that I would like to try. Blurg.
Anyway, it’s in the oven now, on low heat. I didn’t precook the potatoes, so it’s going to take a while. I hope I don’t fall asleep with the stove on. I almost left the house once with bread in the oven.
Update: it is now 2 hours later and those potatoes are still not done. They are cooked, but the dish does not taste the way I envisioned. It’s quite sad. About 45 minutes ago I took it out to taste and it was quite bland, even though it is seasoned. Then I added some cottage cheese in the middle to see if that would improve flavour somehow. Also, I really need to get rid of that cottage cheese and I don’t like it cold and uncooked. I would make lasagne, but alas, I am lacking in some key ingredients and somehow my fridge is still full of food that I need to eat. I have three chicken carcasses in there. One is de-meated, one has a few bits of meat remaining, and the most recent one has about half of the meat left. I was hoping to eat that with the potatoes. I am quite hungry at the moment. I have snacked a bit on the potatoes as they have been cooking but it’s not that tasty. Right now I’m cooking it with the cover off to evaporate some liquid.
Today I went to Indigo and I was using their new Apple touch-screen computers, and I was wearing all black and I had largish headphones on, which sort of look like a headset if you’re not really paying attention, and this lady came up to me and asked me where the bathroom was. I think she thought I worked there, and I happend to know exactly where the bathroom was. The touch-screens sound like a good idea, maybe, to some people, but I don’t like them. You have to keep your arm stuck up in the air to hit the screen, and it’s annoying if you’re not finding what you want, or if you want to browse a whole bunch of stuff. It gets tiring to keep your arm up hovering next to the screen to hit things, and I am still fairly young, compared to a senior citizen. If I were a senior, I wouldn’t want to spend all my energy hovering my arm to hit a screen repeatedly. A mouse would keep the movement to a minimum, and let me rest my arm, but then I guess it would be one more think that evil customers could break or abuse. The touch screen is better than those old trackballs they used to have, those things sucked. Or atleast, by the time that I used it, it was not in good working condition.
I was looking at my thighs today and pinching them to look at the fat, or whatever that lumpy stuff is underneath the skin, and then I noticed that the wrinkles that form when I pinch the flesh are deeper and more defined than they used to be. It is like a vision of the future, my future wrinkles. And then I let go and they disappeared, but they were very well-formed and I can still picture them. It was very alarming. I am getting old. My skin is losing elasticity, I am depositing more fat, and everybody says that it’s hard to get rid of fat as you get older. And I haven’t been exercising for months now. Months. But even if I had, I don’t think that would have stopped the wrinkle folds from being so defined and obvious.
Oh dear, I just saw the GMT date, it’s my brother’s birthday. I forgot.
Luckily I am not on GMT, so it’s tomorrow.
