Fruit Malabsorption

I think I am persimmons intolerant, or have fructose malabsorption. I don’t like them, so I’ve never eaten more than a bite, but yesterday I cooked some with apples, since there was no way I was going to eat them on their own. I left the skins on, hoping that the cooking would soften them up, but they were still brittle and crumbly. Anyway, I only ate 1/4 of one, and shortly after I got that uncomfortable, bloated feeling, and was burping more than normal, and sat up for a while before going to bed, so I could help the digestion along a bit.

Then this morning, still not feeling altogether normal, I had some more persimmons, maybe another 1/4. And I got the same bloaty, burpy reaction. I took 2 Tums and a Zantac.

I did a quick search and found persimmons listed as one of the fruits used in a fructose-intolerance study. These people also used mango and grapes. I may have noticed it with mango, but not grapes. I think I can eat a lot grapes without feeling uncomfortable.

Sadly, I have no control for my study since I ate apples and other items around the same time. It’s just that the persimmons are the only unusual thing that I’ve eaten. However, there was a suspicious bit on one of the apples. I figured I would just cook it longer to kill any lifeforms.

I would like to sleep well tonight so I probably will not eat any persimmons this evening.

I have also previously noted that pineapples make me burp and bloated. I wonder if it’s the same thing.

It seems like the older I get the less things I can comfortably eat. Blurg.
