I Do Not Understand

  • the stock market.
  • why people go to a quiet area in a library and start talking about shit, like their friend who needs a hair cut and their other friend who is always late, while they are always on time, and what it’s like in South Africa.
UPDATE: Someone just asked them to shut up and they replied by saying ‘you could have asked me nicely to be quiet’ and there was some back and forth exchange and then ‘you’re not very nice‘. They also left their cell phone ringer on loud. Their speech patterns and behaviour are like those of ridiculously annoying TV characters.

There’s always a danger in requesting that assholes shut up. Because of their inherent asshole-y nature, they are apt to increase the volume and frequency of the asshole-y behaviour. That’s usually why I say nothing and turn my music up louder.

In unrelated matters- I have recently vowed to never go anywhere (especially an event in which I may have to interact with people) without a book or music, both if feasible. I learned this from Rory Gilmore, a TV character that was mostly enjoyable and only mildly annoying at times. It’s somewhat anti-social, but I have been bored enough times in my life while stuck without a book or music to entertain me. Also, it’s so much more pleasant to stand in the long line at the grocery store while listening to music than getting agitated at the people who have 25 items in the 8 items or less line. Yes, sometimes I count other people’s items. And I ALWAYS count mine to make sure I have less than 8.
  • why people complain about other people’s blog content. If you don’t like what’s on a blog, then don’t read that blog. If it makes you upset or agitated, it’s your fault for continuing to read it. I always blame myself when I get annoyed over idiotic content that I chose to continue reading. And don’t complain to the author when s/he doesn’t write about what you want them to write about, it’s their blog, they can write whatever they want to. And you can chose to ignore it. If you are paying that person to write a certain type of blog, and they are not doing their job, then that is a valid complaint, but if you are reading a blog for entertainment and they fail to entertain you, then go write about it on your own blog.
  • why people bother to plagiarize. You are going to get caught eventually.
  • most knitting patterns. I started a mitten on my own but couldn’t figure out how to incorporate a thumb, so I looked at mitten patterns yesterday and I found a fairly simple-looking one with a decent thumb, but other stuff that I ignored: pop-tops and hearts. I had to read the directions several times before I could understand them, and picture what was going on, since I had to put stitches on hold and then cast-on some stitches and also pick up some stitches, which I have never done properly before- I usually just go in and pull up some yarn, but I figured I should learn how to do it the right way. Then I yelled at the book a few times: “WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR GLOSSARY???!!!” “WHAT IS PM? HOW DO I DO THAT?” After much irritation I discovered it’s ‘place marker’ and it was for the heart design, which I didn’t want anyway, so I was extremely agitated for no reason, and could have ignored that part, but now I know. I am happy to report that there are no gaping holes at the thumb join- but I took precautions by leaving a wide margin when picking up the stitches, AND I picked up more than they recommended, almost double.
  • why the WordPress cursor in Firefox is never in the right place when I’m going back to edit, but is fine when writing new stuff. It’s VERY ANNOYING. UPDATE: I just discovered that the cursor is properly placed while editing in HTML mode, so it’s a VISUAL mode problem.
