Ovens + Computer Dreams
My oven is busted. I didn’t think this was such a huge deal at first because I don’t use my oven that much. And then I realized I’m an idiot. I use my oven ALL THE TIME! I’m baking bread almost every day again, and I’ve also been eating a lot of roast chicken. I was preheating the oven today for a loaf when the preheat light went off after only about 15 minutes, which was odd, and then there was also this electrical burning smell, similar to the one where my first laptop died. I will always experience a little bit of panic whenever I smell that. That smell occurred two days ago as well and I immediately went sniffing around my computer to see if it was about to catch on fire and die. It did not. I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. It was nothing inside the oven, but it was near the kitchen. Then it went away so I hoped that it was someone else’s apartment.
Then today the smell was much stronger, and did not go away and the oven doesn’t work. I suspect it’s a blown fuse, but I have never changed a fuse and do not know how to tell if they are blown because I am not that handy. So I called the building managemnt. And they kind of suck. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
In other suckage, I had another “my computer got stolen” dream on the weekend. It involved the same blue backpack, and I had not left it out of my sight but somehow it was gone. I have no idea how it happened. Then it appeared again, but the backpack was bent at a 90 degree angle– something that a backpack containing a rigid laptop SHOULD NOT be able to do. I grabbed my laptop out of the bag and was HORRIFIED to discover that my laptop had been replaced by a PC! And the PC was all fucked up– the back casing had come off and the front face that covers the keyboard was missing and it was bent at a 90 degree angle! I started wondering what the hell happened to my laptop and why would someone leave me this thing inside my laptop case, and did it even work? I don’t remember what happened after that. I probably woke up.

I hope that oven thing gets fixed. If mine ever goes, there’s no fixing. I’ll have to get a new one. And I still haven’t gotten my range fixed. agh. So far, I’m heading into oven use season, the lack of one range may not impact day to day living given my crazy feeling schedule these days. Baked cooking is good. I need to find more ways to cook two big meals in the oven at the same time ;) last week I did quiche and cassarrole in one day.
Thanks :) Cooking two meals at once is great. My oven is apartment sized, so it’s smaller than the regular ones so I can’t fit two large things inside, but two medium sized ones will fit. But lately I’ve been using a pizza stone, so that limits things to one item at a time or else things are hanging off the edge.
