Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs – Chuck Klosterman + APPLES

That’s my new bathroom book. I read 2/3 of IV and then I started reading bits of Killing Yourself To Live and now I’ve started on S, D & CP. I will probably go back to finish the others later. I’m like that. I abandon things and go back later.

I bought 10 pounds of apples yesterday. I’m probably going to make a tarte tatin, or two. I bought Paula Reds, which taste kind of like Macintosh, and Golden Delicious, which I don’t recall ever having, mostly because I don’t much like Delicious apples, but these Golden Delicious, also called Ginger Gold, are quite good. They are sweeter than I thought, and are crisp too, maybe because they are fresh. As I recall, I don’t much like Delicious because sometimes they can be mushy. I will eat them if someone cuts them up for me though. I found a website that recommends Golden Delicious for Tarte Tatin because they hold their shape well. They also only cook for about 20 minutes on the stove before putting it in the oven, but I do not think that is enough time to develop the caramel, but I guess I could turn the heat up and see what happens. I don’t usually follow the recipe completely anyway.
