Weekend Nightmare
Childhood Nightmares = Scary Monsters
Adult Nightmares = Someone stole my computer
Last weekend I had a dream that someone stole my laptop. It was late in the evening and I was working outdoors, in a park, and other people were out working too. There were lit areas near buildings, with concrete desks so you could work, and stools to sit on. In the dream, the part where I leave my computer unattended is not something I recall, it just sort of happened and I was going back to the stool where I had left it, next to Jeffrey Buttle, the current Men’s World Figure Skating Champion.
I do not know why Jeffrey Buttle was in my dream. Usually I can relate my dream people, subjects, situations etc. to something that happened that day, but the World Figure Skating Championships were months ago. I did watch him win the World Championship on tape delay, and I was happy that he won, but that is the last time I thought about Jeffrey Buttle or figure skating. I hardly follow figure skating nowadays and I don’t even have a favorite figure skater anymore. I used to follow Kurt Browning and Brian Orser and then my interest in figure skating declined after they retired.
Anyway, I was with a friend, not anyone that I know in real life, so just some dream friend that I’ve never seen before in my dreams, but it seemed like we were good friends, and he convinced me to leave my laptop next to Jeffrey Buttle. And when I returned, the computer was gone. I started panicking and then thought I might have left it on another level, because there were three tiers of concrete desks and stools in that area. But then I remembered there’s only one Jeffrey Buttle, so I was in the right area, and my computer was gone.
In fact, even Jeffrey Buttle was gone, I think. It becomes a little hazy at this point. I went searching through the rest of the study areas to look for my laptop and noticed tons of people with laptops, but none of them were mine. Then I saw a lady with a sander and goggles on, kind of like that lady who is on Late Nite with David Letterman sometimes. There were lots of sparks flying and she was sanding off the serial number to a laptop that was presumably stolen. And she was doing it out in the open. It was quite brazen, and odd, and I felt like I shouldn’t stare at her too long lest she come over and assault me with the sander or something.
Eventually, I found Jeffrey Buttle and asked if he had seen my laptop, but he hadn’t. And then my friend asked if it was possible that Jeffrey had taken my computer by mistake, since we had the same computer. Jeffrey didn’t think he did, but he offered to check, and so he opened the trunk of his car, and turned on his computer and right away I knew it wasn’t mine because his desktop picture was different from mine. I forget what it looked like though. Jeffrey Buttle was very nice and polite in the dream.
I was quite sad that I hadn’t found my computer and I had that awful sinking and weighed down feeling and I figured I would never get it back. I woke up feeling awful, like my laptop really had been stolen and kind of confused about whether it was real or not. And then I told myself it was just a dream. It was weird, like there were two me’s, the me that had the dream and was still sort of in the dream, and the me that was waking up and I kind of felt like I woke myself up because I was so upset in the dream. So the rational me said it was just a dream and then I remembered that the laptop was still in my possession and that I had never been studying outside on a concrete workstation next to Jeffrey Buttle.

but maybe you should back up your stuff just in case. should make you feel more secure :)
That’s a good idea.
OH my god. I just realized that this is a recurring dream. Well, it has happened twice now, and perhaps even more times because I have poor dream memory, but apparently I wrote another blog entry about my computer being stolen last year, while eating pizza with some dream. Weird.
wow. I just found another stolen computer dream from 2006. It seems like I have one per year.
