Lunchtime Running Playlist
I went for a little run at lunch time. I didn’t plan on it, but the weather was so nice and the sun was shining. I felt compelled. Good thing too, since the weather has turned dark and gloomy and the wind is crazy now. Environment Canada said it was 16C earlier, but I think that must have been elsewhere in the city. It was quite warm though, at least 10C.
I didn’t have time to make a special playlist and since 80% of my shuffle content is currently Ryan Adams, or Ryan Adams-related songs, it was an all-Ryan playlist today.
The warm-up song was ‘I Miss You’ – DJ Reggie, from www.ryan-adams.com, but I don’t think it’s still there [turn your volume down before going there. You can hear some new songs on his blog]. It’s from the album 1980 x 1000, which I highly recommend. It’s hilarious. It’s got tambourines, brontosauruses, vampires, street thugs, food ninjas, and other shit. Lyrics include:
Bugs
Yo, I had a bad tomorrow
That’s right, future revisionism
This jam is called bugs.
Bugs
They got 18 arms
Motherfuckers could be givin’ six people hugs
While they were flipping pancakes and making eggs with the other hand
This shit is so loud I can barely hear my own self think
I always make my shit too loud
…
Aw snap! I’m lost in the mix.
…
Ah, no …
I don’t think this one’s going to make the record
It sounds like all the other tracks I do
And now the damn tambourine is so loud I can barely hear myself think
I can barely even hear you
Can you hear me?
Yo, if you’re listening to this text me later and we’ll go to KFC …
The excellence continues on from there. It’s a 4 minute song.
The rest of the playlist:
- Wish You Were Here (concert, Norfolk 2006)
- Anybody Wanna Take Me Home? (concert, Norfolk 2006)
- So Alive (radio, 2004)
- Off Broadway (concert, San Diego, 2008; best version ever)
- Busted (It is impossible to listen to this and not smile.)
- Meadowlake Street
- Mockingbird
- How Do You Keep Love Alive
- Cold Roses
Total distance 4.3 km, 42 minutes. Calves were hurting a lot again, so I did a fair bit of walking, but no heel pain. My legs are not able to keep up with my heart. I guess I need to do some strength training. In the past my legs were usually in better shape than my heart but lately I’ve noticed that I’m not stopping because I can’t breathe, it’s because my legs can’t take it anymore.
