The price of flour has increased by 50% over last week.
And that is after a previous 50% increase last month. I’m not sure how much bread prices have increased, since I have not been buying bread lately, but I’m sure they’ve gone up. I’ve seen news stories about it and the rising cost of wheat due to farmers planting less of it and more of corn.
I bought another 10 lbs of flour on Saturday, just to hedge against future increases, but really, 10 lbs does not last all that long if you do a lot of baking.

People seem interested in the price of flour. Hits are now matching those of a Ryan Adams posting. I remember back in the day (last year), when flour cost $2.13 for 5 lbs. And then it went up to $2.53 about 6 months later. Then it went up to $2.89 about a month ago, while organic flour remained at $2.99 for that entire period. This week the same bag costs $3.99 and organic flour is $4.99. The 22 lb bag of flour went from $7.99 to $11.99 in the past week. I don’t know what the previous prices for the large bags were because I never bought them, but they usually give you a discount on the bulk purchase so I imagine it was $6-7. Fascinating reading I’m sure.

My flour post has now surpassed my Ryan Adams post for today’s hits.
