8 Things Meme

I was tagged by May for this 8 Things Meme. Here are the rules:

  1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
  2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules.
  3. At the end of your blog you need to tag 8 people and post their names.
  4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

It’s taken a while to think of 8 things…

1. I used to drink Coke every day. Sometimes 2 or 3 cans, one per meal. I never used to think there was anything wrong with that, but now that I look back, I feel sorry for my teeth.

2. I do not use facial tissues to blow my nose. I used to use them as a kid, but I was always having to blow my nose due to allergies, and I found I wasn’t using the entire tissue, so I started ripping them in half before blowing my nose, so as not to waste the unused portion of the tissue. It doesn’t take much time to rip tissues in half, but still, it bothered me, for example, when your nose is very runny and stuff is hanging down, every second counts. In junior high, I started using toilet paper instead because you can rip off just as much as you need. Toilet paper rolls are more compact than a box of tissues, and the roll makes for handy carrying as you sneeze your way from room to room. I keep a roll of toilet paper next to my pillow, so I don’t have to get up at night to blow my nose. Toilet paper rolls are also less painful to roll over onto than a box of tissues. In short, I love toilet paper.

3. I enjoy standing around in the kitchen and eating. This bugs my mother. She always tells me to sit down. But I don’t see why it’s necessary to sit while eating. When I have midnight snacks at my parents house, I stand by the counter, next to the sink and I’ll flip through the newspaper or a magazine and I feel content. My apartment kitchen is too small for this, so mostly, this activity is limited to houses where the kitchens are much larger.

4. I paid to see the Backstreet Boys in concert. Naturally, I was one of the oldest people there, by about 10-15 years. I would not go again, but I’m glad I went. I still like some Backstreet Boys songs: ‘I Want It That Way’ is my favorite, even though it’s kind of like a Burger King jingle.

5. The first thing I do when I get home is take my shoes off and wash my hands, it’s a bit obsessive. I don’t like touching things in my apartment until I’ve washed my hands.

6. I have sang karaoke in a pub. Most of the people were drunk and/or I would never see them again, so I figured why not.

7. I almost fainted once. My vision blacked out for a second, but I was able to make it to my room and lie down. It was some sort of vasovagal syncope, related to my period. I was experiencing very painful menstrual cramps, so I took some ibuprofen, shortly thereafter, I vomited. I have had similar episodes where I’ve had ringing in my ears and fuzzy vision, like the fuzz you see when a TV station stops airing. The first time was in Grade 8 math class when Mr. Dalton called on me, and even though I couldn’t see anything, I tried to do the problem, but I took too long and he called on someone else. It happened again in Grade 11 math class, no one called on me, but Gillian told me my face was green. I went home after that.

8. Whenever I have a cold or flu with a cough, I always feel like singing. Not in the first few days where I feel like crap, but as I’m starting to feel better, even though my throat may still be sort of sore and phlegmy, I’ll feel like singing. I take it as a sign that the cold/flu is almost done. It’s also sort of fun to hear myself with a low singing voice.

I don’t know if anything will happen after this since all the people I’ve tagged do not have a blog (that’s why I didn’t put their names) and they may not want to participate (totally understandable, it is quite time consuming…), but they’re all on Facebook, which can accommodate this sort of thing.
