Less Than Average

I read in some ‘learn to run’ book that VO2max is a good way to measure your running progress and gauge your fitness before you start training. The book said to run 1.5 miles without completely tiring yourself out, but as fast as you can, instructions which I found to be a bit confusing. Other websites just said to go as fast as you can. In any case, I don’t think I could go as fast as I can unless there’s something motivating me to go fast, like I’m being chased by a rabid dog or something. Anyway, for me, running 1.5 miles is in itself quite the feat, regardless of whether I’m going as fast as I can. So I ran on a treadmill for 1.5 miles, according to the machine, and it took 18:29. And I was glad when it was over. I plugged my numbers into their equations and I’m ‘less than average’. How sad.
